# A Mounjaro tracker that fits your week

> A calm Mounjaro tracker: log each dose and injection site, note side effects in seconds, follow your weight trend and bring a clear record to your prescriber.

Log each Mounjaro dose and where you injected it, note how you feel in a few taps, and keep your weight, food and fluids beside it. Handle keeps the weeks in one clear record for your next appointment. It is free to start, and it never tells you what dose to take.

## In short

- A Mounjaro tracker is a record of what actually happened each week: the dose you took, where you injected it, how you felt and how your weight is trending, so you can see the pattern, and show it to your prescriber, instead of relying on memory.
- Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is a once-weekly injection from Eli Lilly, made in six strengths from 2.5 mg to 15 mg. In the US it is approved for type 2 diabetes; in the UK and EU the same medicine is also licensed for weight management.[1][2][3]
- Stomach side effects such as nausea and diarrhea are most common while the dose is being stepped up and usually ease over time, which makes the weeks after each step up the ones most worth writing down.[1]
- Handle records all of this for free — doses, injection sites, a short daily check-in, weight, food and fluids — and never tells you to change, skip or catch up a dose.

## What a Mounjaro tracker should record

You do not need to track everything. These are the few things that genuinely help at an appointment, and that are hardest to remember a month later.

- **Each dose, as taken.** The amount, the day and time, and whether it was on schedule. A late or missed week is part of the record, not a failure.
- **Where you injected.** Mounjaro's label says to rotate injection sites with each dose, across the abdomen, the thigh or (given by someone else) the back of the upper arm.[1]
- **How you felt.** Nausea, diarrhea, constipation, appetite and anything else you notice — especially in the weeks after a dose change.
- **Your weight trend.** Weekly averages tell you more than any single morning, because day-to-day water swings are normal.
- **Food, fluids and protein.** Appetite can drop on Mounjaro. Vomiting or diarrhea can dehydrate you, and the label warns that dehydration can affect the kidneys.[1] Our guide to [what to eat on Mounjaro](https://handlehealth.co/what-to-eat-on-mounjaro) sets out what the NHS, NICE and Lilly say about eating.
- **Anything that changed.** A new pen type, a new strength, a new medicine. If you use the contraceptive pill, the label advises switching to a non-oral method or adding a barrier method for 4 weeks after starting and after each dose increase — worth noting the dates.[1]

## Mounjaro at a glance

The manufacturing facts, straight from the label. None of this is a dose to take — your prescriber sets that.

| | Mounjaro |
|---|---|
| Made by | Eli Lilly and Company |
| Medicine | Tirzepatide, which acts on two gut-hormone receptors: GIP and GLP-1[1] |
| How it's taken | An injection under the skin once a week, any time of day, with or without meals[1] |
| Strengths | 2.5, 5, 7.5, 10, 12.5 and 15 mg[1] |
| Forms | Single-dose pen, single-dose vial, multi-dose vial and the four-dose KwikPen[1] |
| Approved in the US for | Type 2 diabetes (adults, and children 10 and older), and lowering the risk of major cardiovascular events (cardiovascular death, heart attack or stroke) in adults with type 2 diabetes at high risk[1] |
| Weight management | In the US, tirzepatide for weight loss is sold as [Zepbound](https://handlehealth.co/zepbound-tracker). In the UK and EU, Mounjaro itself carries that licence.[2][3] |
| Half-life | About 5 days; a steady level builds after about 4 weeks of weekly doses[1] |
| Storage | In the fridge at 2–8 °C. A single-dose pen or vial can be kept unrefrigerated, up to 30 °C, for a total of 21 days.[1] |

### Log a dose in seconds — site included (in Handle)

Open Handle on injection day and record the dose you actually took. Your prescribed plan is already there, so it is usually one tap to confirm and one to pick the site.

- The amount, time and injection site in one entry
- See where you injected last time, so rotating is easy
- Forgot to log it? Add it later, up to 30 days back
- A reminder on your injection day in the iPhone app, if you want one

## Why the injection site is worth writing down

Mounjaro can be injected into the abdomen or thigh, or into the back of the upper arm if someone else gives it, and the label asks you to rotate sites with each dose.[1] Exposure is similar whichever of those areas you use.[1]

Injection-site reactions were reported by 3.2% of people on Mounjaro in the diabetes trials, against 0.4% on placebo.[1] If one area keeps reacting, a record of which site you used, and when, turns "it sometimes gets sore" into something your care team can act on.

### A check-in that takes seconds, not a diary (in Handle)

Each day Handle asks how you are, starting with nausea, plus the few symptoms you choose. It stays the same short card every day, whatever you answer.

Some answers, such as severe nausea, come with a clear next step, like contacting your care team. Handle never diagnoses, and it is not a monitoring or emergency service: if you feel very unwell, contact your clinician or emergency services directly.

- Nausea every day; diarrhea, constipation, hunger and more if you switch them on
- Track up to six extra symptoms, or one in your own words
- A private note for the day that nothing reads

## Side effects worth tracking on Mounjaro

The label's table from two placebo-controlled trials in adults with type 2 diabetes. Most reports of nausea, vomiting and diarrhea happened while the dose was being increased, and decreased over time.[1]

| Side effect | Placebo | 5 mg | 10 mg | 15 mg |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Nausea | 4% | 12% | 15% | 18% |
| Diarrhea | 9% | 12% | 13% | 17% |
| Decreased appetite | 1% | 5% | 10% | 11% |
| Vomiting | 2% | 5% | 5% | 9% |
| Constipation | 1% | 6% | 6% | 7% |
| Indigestion | 3% | 8% | 8% | 5% |
| Stomach pain | 4% | 6% | 5% | 5% |

*Source: Mounjaro prescribing information, Table 1 (SURPASS-1 and SURPASS-5 pooled).[1] In the weight-management trials of tirzepatide (sold as Zepbound in the US), stomach side effects were reported more often.[6] See [Mounjaro side effects](https://handlehealth.co/mounjaro-side-effects) for the full picture.*

> **Get medical help straight away if you have**
> - Severe pain in your stomach area that will not go away, with or without vomiting — the label warns about pancreatitis.[1]
> - Signs of a serious allergic reaction, such as swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat, or trouble breathing or swallowing.[1]
> - Nausea, vomiting or diarrhea that does not go away — the label warns that losing fluids can lead to kidney problems.[1]

### See the weeks, not just the days (in Handle)

Journey draws your weekly weight trend with your Mounjaro dose as a step line beneath it, alongside how you felt, what you ate and your training. Handle puts them side by side and leaves the interpretation to you and your prescriber.

- Weight as weekly averages, never a streak or a score
- Resistance and cardio sessions counted separately
- Protein and fluid totals, and any targets your clinician set

### Between doses: your week, estimated (Handle Premium)

Tirzepatide has a half-life of about five days.[1] Between doses draws an estimated level curve from the doses you have recorded, using the medicine's published absorption and elimination figures.

It is a model, not a blood test, and it only ever draws doses you have already taken. It is there to help you understand your week — never to suggest a dose.

### A summary your prescriber can actually use (Handle Premium)

Before an appointment, generate a consultation report: your Mounjaro record including any dose changes, your weight history, symptom summaries, nutrition and activity, and a note about what you want to discuss.

- Share a secure link, and revoke it whenever you like
- Your private daily notes are never included
- Your clinician needs no account to read it

## Handle vs a notes app or spreadsheet

| | Handle | Notes app or spreadsheet |
|---|---|---|
| Dose, time and site in one entry | Yes, with your plan filled in | Typed by hand each week |
| Where you injected last time | Shown when you log | Scroll back and check |
| Symptoms | A short daily check-in | Whatever you remember to write |
| Weight trend | Weekly averages, charted | A column of numbers |
| Food, fluids and protein | Totals for the day | Separate app or none |
| Summary for your prescriber | Consultation report (Premium) | Copy, paste and hope |
| Dose advice | Never | Never |

*If you'd rather keep your record on paper, our [printable GLP-1 tracker](https://handlehealth.co/printable-glp-1-tracker) has columns for the medicine and amount, the time and the injection site.*

## Using Mounjaro in the UK

In the UK, Mounjaro is licensed both for type 2 diabetes and for weight management; the MHRA authorised the weight-management use in November 2023, and a four-dose KwikPen followed in January 2024.[2][4] NICE has published guidance on its use for people living with obesity.[5]

Whether you use a KwikPen or single-dose pens, Handle records the amount you took each week and works in kilograms or pounds.

## Questions worth taking to your prescriber

A tracker is most useful when it feeds a conversation. These are good ones to have early.

1. Which side effects should I contact you about, and which can I manage at home?
2. What should I do if I miss a dose? (Mounjaro's instructions have a specific rule — ask rather than guess.)
3. Does Mounjaro affect any of my other medicines, such as insulin, a sulfonylurea or the contraceptive pill?
4. How will we decide whether to stay on this dose or change it, and when will we review it?
5. Is there anything you would like me to track between appointments?

## Questions people ask

### Is there an app to track Mounjaro?

Yes. Handle is built for GLP-1 medicines including Mounjaro: it records each dose and injection site, a short daily symptom check-in, your weight, food and fluids, and can turn them into a summary for your prescriber. Other apps exist too; see our [guide to GLP-1 trackers](https://handlehealth.co/glp-1-tracker).

### What should I track while taking Mounjaro?

The dose you took and when, where you injected, how you felt (especially after a dose change), your weight trend and roughly how much you are eating and drinking. That is enough to show your prescriber what is working and what is not.

### Is Handle's Mounjaro tracker free?

Yes. Recording doses, injection sites, check-ins, weight, food, drinks and activity, and the Journey charts, are all free. Handle Premium adds the Between doses estimate, the consultation report with shareable links, food photo scanning and iOS widgets.

### Will Handle tell me when to increase my Mounjaro dose?

No. The label describes starting low and stepping up gradually, but when and whether to change your dose is your prescriber's decision. Handle records the plan they set and what you actually took, and never suggests a change.

### Where should I inject Mounjaro?

The label lists the abdomen, the thigh, or the back of the upper arm if someone else gives the injection, and says to rotate sites with each dose.[1] Handle records the site with every dose and shows you where you injected last time.

### How long does Mounjaro stay in your system?

Tirzepatide's half-life is about five days, and a steady level builds after about four weeks of weekly doses.[1] With Premium, Handle's Between doses view estimates your level from the doses you recorded; it is a model, not a blood test. Our [Mounjaro half-life](https://handlehealth.co/mounjaro-half-life) guide explains what the labels say, and what they don't.

### Is Mounjaro the same as Zepbound?

They are the same medicine, tirzepatide, from the same maker. In the US, Mounjaro is approved for type 2 diabetes and Zepbound for weight management and obstructive sleep apnea.[1][6] Compare them in [Mounjaro vs Zepbound](https://handlehealth.co/mounjaro-vs-zepbound).

### Can I record a Mounjaro dose I forgot to log?

Yes. You can add a dose for any day in the last 30 days, and Handle keeps the date it happened separate from the date you recorded it, so your record stays honest.

### Does Mounjaro need to be kept in the fridge?

Yes, at 2–8 °C, and never frozen. If needed, a single-dose pen or vial can be kept unrefrigerated at up to 30 °C for a total of 21 days; multi-dose vials and KwikPens have their own 30-day rules.[1]

## About Handle

Handle is a GLP-1 treatment companion. It keeps your dose record, a short daily check-in, weight, food, drinks and activity in one calm place, and turns them into a summary you can choose to share with your clinician.

Handle supports recording and conversations with your care team. It does not diagnose, and it never tells you to start, change, skip or stop a dose. This page is general information, not medical advice. Always follow your prescriber and your medicine's instructions for use.
