Semaglutide tracker

One semaglutide tracker for pens and pills alike

Semaglutide goes by several names: Ozempic, Wegovy and Rybelsus, and more recently Ozempic tablets and the Wegovy pill too, taken as a weekly injection or a daily tablet. A semaglutide tracker has to cope with all of them. Handle records whichever one your prescriber chose, under its own name, and never tells you what dose to take.

In short

  • A semaglutide tracker records which product you take, the amount and time of each dose, the injection site for pens, how you feel and your weight trend; the product name matters, because the oral label calls even its own two tablets "not substitutable on a mg-to-mg basis".3
  • Ozempic and Wegovy are injected once a week, while Rybelsus, Ozempic tablets and the Wegovy pill are taken once a day on an empty stomach.1,2,3
  • Semaglutide's half-life is about a week whether it's injected or swallowed, and it stays in the circulation for about 5 to 7 weeks after the last dose, depending on the product.1,2,3
  • Handle's free plan records every one of them, with Ozempic, Wegovy and Rybelsus listed by name and the newer tablets added under "Something else".
  • Handle never converts amounts or gives dose advice: your prescriber sets the plan, and Handle keeps the record.

Semaglutide brands at a glance

Five products, one molecule, all from Novo Nordisk. These facts come from the current US labels; the amount you take is your prescriber's decision.

Ozempic tablets are a newer formulation of oral semaglutide, renamed from Rybelsus in January 2026; outside the US, the tablets are still called Rybelsus.3,4

What a semaglutide tracker should record

The same few things matter whichever brand you take.

  • The product, not just the molecule. Write the brand and form, not only "semaglutide": the numbers make sense only next to the product name.
  • Each dose as taken. Weekly for pens, daily for tablets, including late and missed doses.
  • The injection site, for pens. Both injection labels list the abdomen, thigh and upper arm. Wegovy's says to rotate with each dose; Ozempic's, to use a different site each week within the same area.1,2 See semaglutide injection sites.
  • The morning routine, for tablets. The labels ask for an empty stomach, up to 4 ounces of water and a wait of at least 30 minutes before food, drink or other oral medicines.2,3 Handle's daily note is a handy place to mention a morning that went differently.
  • Side effects. In the Ozempic and Wegovy trials, stomach side effects were reported most during dose escalation.1,2
  • Weight, food and fluids. Weight as a weekly trend, with protein and fluid totals alongside. For food itself, see our guide to what to eat on semaglutide.

How long semaglutide lasts

Semaglutide's elimination half-life is about a week, whether it's injected or taken as a tablet.1,3 The Ozempic and oral semaglutide labels say steady levels are reached after 4 to 5 weeks of regular dosing, and semaglutide stays in the circulation for about 5 weeks after the last dose, or 5 to 7 weeks after the higher Wegovy doses.1,2,3

How it gets there differs by route: levels peak 1 to 3 days after an injection but about an hour after a tablet, and a much smaller share of a tablet is absorbed.1,3 Because semaglutide lingers, the labels also include specific advice about planning a pregnancy, so raise it with your prescriber early if it applies to you.1,2 Our semaglutide half-life guide sets out each product's label figures.

Handle PremiumPremium

Between doses: an estimated semaglutide curve

For the semaglutide medicines Handle lists by name (Ozempic, Wegovy and Rybelsus), Between doses sketches an estimated level from the doses in your log, based on published absorption and elimination figures. Injections and tablets get separate models, because they reach the bloodstream so differently.

The curve is a model, not a blood test. It shows only doses already taken, never one still to come, and it is no guide to when or how much to take.

  • Built only from your recorded doses
  • Separate figures for injection and tablet
  • An estimate, never a blood level

Compounded semaglutide: what the FDA says

Some people are prescribed semaglutide made by a compounding pharmacy rather than a branded pen or tablet. Here is where things stand, from the FDA's own records, as of September 2026.

The FDA declared the shortage of semaglutide injection products resolved on 21 February 2025, after they had been in shortage since 2022.5 It says compounded drugs are not FDA-approved, so the agency does not review them for safety, effectiveness or quality before they are marketed. Its published concerns include adverse events that may be linked to dosing errors, and salt forms of semaglutide that are different active ingredients from the one in approved medicines.6

No generic semaglutide can be sold in the US yet: the one generic application on record has tentative approval only, granted in April 2026, which does not allow marketing.7

If compounded semaglutide is what you've been prescribed, record it in Handle under "Something else", with the name and amount as your prescriber wrote them. Handle doesn't convert, calculate or check amounts. The FDA advises talking to your doctor, or to the compounder who made the drug, about anything on the label or instructions you're unsure of.6

Choose the symptoms worth following

Nausea is always on the card. Switch on what else matters to you, such as diarrhea, constipation, vomiting, hunger or food noise, and add up to six tracked symptoms like heartburn, belching, fullness or fatigue, or one in your own words.

When an answer such as severe nausea warrants it, Handle suggests a clear next step, for example contacting your care team. It does not diagnose and is not a monitoring or emergency service; if you feel very unwell, contact your clinician or emergency services.

  • Turn questions on or off whenever you like
  • The card never grows because of an answer
  • A private daily note that nothing reads

Semaglutide side effects in the labels

Each label reports its own trials, in different people and at different doses, so compare each result only with its own placebo.1,2

Ozempic: two placebo-controlled trials in adults with type 2 diabetes. Wegovy: three placebo-controlled trials of 2.4 mg in adults with obesity or overweight, up to 68 weeks. The labels caution that rates from different trials can't be directly compared. More in Ozempic side effects and Wegovy side effects.

Switching between semaglutide products

Moving from the pen to a tablet, from one brand to another or between strengths is a prescriber decision, and the labels have specific instructions for switching. When it happens, update your plan in Handle: your earlier doses stay on the record, and the consultation report shows the change.

Semaglutide tracker app or log sheet?

A paper log sheet works if you'll keep it. Give each dose a line: the date and time, the product and amount as prescribed, the injection site for pens, any symptoms, your weight if you weighed, and a short note. Our free GLP-1 log sheet has those columns ready to print.

An app earns its place as the record grows. Handle prefills your plan, shows your last injection site, keeps a late entry honest about its date, charts weight as weekly averages and can gather it all into a consultation report (Premium), with no dose advice anywhere.

Questions to bring to your prescriber

  1. Which semaglutide product and form am I on, and how exactly should I record the amount?
  2. If I miss a dose, what do I do? Pens and tablets have different rules.
  3. Which side effects should I report straight away?
  4. Could any of my other medicines interact with semaglutide?
  5. If I'm thinking about pregnancy, when should we talk about it?

Questions people ask

Is there a semaglutide tracker app?

Yes. Handle tracks every semaglutide product: Ozempic, Wegovy and Rybelsus by name, and Ozempic tablets or the Wegovy pill under "Something else". Log doses and injection sites, answer a short daily check-in, and record weight, food and fluids in the iPhone app. See our GLP-1 tracker guide.

What's the difference between Ozempic, Wegovy and Rybelsus?

All three are semaglutide from Novo Nordisk. Ozempic is a weekly injection for type 2 diabetes; Wegovy is a weekly injection, and now a daily pill, for weight management and heart risk; Rybelsus is a daily tablet for type 2 diabetes, joined in the US by Ozempic tablets.1,2,3

Can I track compounded semaglutide in Handle?

Yes. Add it under "Something else" with the name and amount as your prescriber wrote them. Handle records what you enter and doesn't convert, calculate or check amounts. Compounded drugs are not FDA-approved, so if anything on the label is unclear, ask your prescriber or the compounder who made it.6

Is there a generic semaglutide?

Not one that can be sold in the US yet. The FDA has given one generic semaglutide injection tentative approval, in April 2026, which does not allow it to be marketed.7 Compounded semaglutide is not FDA-approved, so it isn't a generic either.6

How long does semaglutide stay in your system?

Semaglutide's half-life is about a week, and the labels say it stays in the circulation for about 5 weeks after the last dose, or 5 to 7 weeks after the higher Wegovy doses.1,2 To see an estimate drawn from your own log of Ozempic, Wegovy or Rybelsus, there is Between doses, a Premium feature; it is a model rather than a blood test.

Can I track oral semaglutide?

Yes. Rybelsus is listed by name, and Ozempic tablets and the Wegovy pill can be added under "Something else" with a daily schedule. Tablets are logged without an injection site, and the rest of the record works just as it does for pens.

Where do you inject semaglutide?

Both injection labels list the abdomen, thigh and upper arm. Wegovy's says to rotate sites with each dose, and Ozempic's to use a different site each week within the same area.1,2 Every dose you log in Handle keeps its site, so the last one is always on screen.

Does Handle give dose advice for semaglutide?

No. The labels start with a low amount and build up in steps, and your prescriber decides those steps. Handle keeps a record of the plan and of every dose taken; it never converts one product's amount into another's or suggests a change.
