Weight loss injection tracker
A weight loss injection tracker that remembers for you
Whether you call it a shot or a jab, a weight loss injection takes a minute and its details are easy to forget. A good weight loss injection tracker records each injection as you took it, where it went and how you felt afterward, for Zepbound, Mounjaro, Wegovy, Saxenda and other GLP-1 injections. Here's what to record, how to rotate sites, and how the options compare.

On this page
In short
- A weight loss injection tracker records each injection as you actually took it (date, time, amount and injection site) alongside how you felt and your weight trend, so nothing depends on memory.
- Most GLP-1 weight-loss injections are once weekly, such as Wegovy and tirzepatide (Zepbound in the US, Mounjaro in the UK), while Saxenda (liraglutide) is injected once daily.1,2,3,8
- Labels ask you to rotate injection sites. For Zepbound that means the abdomen, the thigh or, if someone else injects it, the back of the upper arm, choosing a different spot each week even within the same area.1
- Handle records all of this in its iPhone app, with free core tracking, for weekly and daily injections, and never suggests a dose, a change or a catch-up.
What a weight loss injection tracker should record
Injection day takes a minute. These are the details worth keeping from it.
- The injection, as taken. Date, time and amount, against the plan your prescriber set. A late or missed week belongs in the record too.
- Where it went. Abdomen, thigh or upper arm, left or right. Rotating is far easier with a record than from memory.
- Anything unusual at the site. Redness, itching or a lump, and which site it was.
- The pen or vial. A new strength, a new pen type such as a four-dose pen, or a switch of medicine, with the date.
- How you felt that week. Nausea and the symptoms you choose, especially in the weeks after a dose change.
- Your weight trend. Weekly averages tell you more than any single morning.
Weight loss injections at a glance
Reference facts from each medicine's US label. What you take, and when, is for your prescriber to decide.
| Medicine | How often | Where the label says to inject | Half-life |
|---|---|---|---|
| Zepbound or Mounjaro (tirzepatide) | Once weekly1 | Abdomen or thigh; back of the upper arm if someone else injects1 | About 5–6 days1 |
| Wegovy (semaglutide) | Once weekly, on the same day each week2 | Abdomen, thigh or upper arm2 | About 1 week2 |
| Ozempic (semaglutide) | Once weekly5 | Abdomen, thigh or upper arm5 | About 1 week5 |
| Saxenda (liraglutide) | Once daily3 | Abdomen, thigh or upper arm3 | About 13 hours3 |
Ozempic is approved for type 2 diabetes rather than weight management; it's here because many people track it the same way. Novo Nordisk says US shipments of Saxenda will end in late January 2027, and a generic liraglutide 3 mg was approved in August 2025.6,7 Each of these works in Handle; see the Zepbound tracker, Wegovy tracker and Ozempic tracker.
In Handle
Log the jab and the site in one go
Your plan is already filled in, so recording an injection is a tap to confirm what you took and a tap for the site: abdomen, thigh or upper arm, left or right.
- Weekly, daily or twice-daily schedules
- Injection-day reminders in the iPhone app
- Forgot to log it? Add it later, up to 30 days back

How to rotate injection sites
Each of these labels asks you to rotate where you inject. The Zepbound medication guide puts it plainly: you can use the same area of your body, but choose a different injection site in that area, and don't use the same site each time.1 Wegovy's instructions add that you shouldn't inject into skin that is tender, bruised, red or hard.2 Saxenda's label gives one reason to rotate within an area: to lower the risk of a skin reaction called cutaneous amyloidosis.3
The labels don't name a best site. For tirzepatide, the label reports similar exposure whether it's injected in the abdomen, thigh or upper arm.4 What matters is moving around.
Site reactions are worth noting too. In Zepbound's 72-week weight trials, injection-site reactions were reported by 6–8% of people on the medicine versus 2% on placebo.1 If one spot keeps reacting, a record showing which site and which week is far more useful to your care team than a hazy memory.
In Handle
See where you injected last time
Handle keeps the site with every dose and shows your last recorded site when you log the next one, so choosing a different spot takes no memory at all.
- Left and right sides of the abdomen, thighs and upper arms
- Your full site history in your dose record

A weekly injection routine that sticks
Nothing here changes what your prescriber set. It just makes the week easier to keep track of.
- 1Set up your plan
Add your medicine, the amount your prescriber set and your injection day, or a daily schedule. Reminders in the iPhone app can prompt you on the day.
- 2Log it when you inject
Record the amount and the site straight away, while it's fresh.
- 3Choose next week's site
Check where you injected last time and pick a different spot.
- 4Check in most days
Nausea and the symptoms you chose, in a few taps. See our GLP-1 side effect tracker guide.
- 5Weigh in when you like
Any day you choose. Handle draws the trend from weekly averages, and never keeps score.
- 6Missed or late?
Each product's instructions have their own rule, so ask your prescriber or pharmacist. Handle records what happened and never tells you to catch up.
Spreadsheet, paper or app: choosing a weight loss injection tracker
| Handle | Spreadsheet or Excel template | Paper log | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Logging on injection day | A tap or two, plan filled in | Type a row | Write a line |
| Site rotation | Last site shown when you log | Scroll back and check | Flip back and check |
| Symptoms | A short daily check-in | Extra columns you design | Notes in the margin |
| Weight trend | Weekly averages, charted | A chart you build | A column of numbers |
| Adding a missed entry | Up to 30 days back, real date kept | Edit any cell | Squeeze it in |
| Reminders | In the iPhone app | None built in | None |
| Sharing with your prescriber | Consultation report (Premium) | Send the file | Bring the notebook |
| Platforms | iPhone | Any spreadsheet app | Paper |
A spreadsheet is a perfectly good record if you'll keep it up. For paper, our printable GLP-1 log has columns for the dose, the time and the injection site. The record matters more than the tool.

An estimate of your level between injections
Between doses draws an estimated medication-level curve from the injections you've recorded, using your medicine's published half-life and absorption figures. It's a model, not a blood test.
It only ever draws doses you've already taken, never a future one, and it is never a suggestion about dosing.

For UK readers: tracking your weight loss jab
In the UK, tirzepatide for weight loss is sold as Mounjaro. The MHRA authorised it for weight management in November 2023, and a four-dose KwikPen followed in January 2024.8,9 Handle records the amount you took each week, whichever pen it came from; our Mounjaro tracker page has the details. On the NHS in England, access is being phased in under NICE guidance, starting with people who have the highest BMI and the most weight-related health conditions.10
The MHRA has also reminded women using weight-loss jabs to use effective contraception. It notes that Mounjaro may make the pill less effective in people who are overweight, especially in the four weeks after starting and after any dose increase.11 Your dose record keeps those dates to hand. Weighing up options? See Mounjaro vs Wegovy.

Questions people ask
Is there an app to track weight loss injections?+
Yes. Handle records each injection with its date, amount and site, plus a short daily check-in, your weight and your food, for weekly and daily GLP-1 injections. The iPhone app is on the App Store, with a free core record. Our GLP-1 tracker guide compares the options.
Is there a free weight loss jab tracker?+
Yes. Handle's free plan covers logging every jab and its site, a daily symptom check-in, weight, food and Journey charts, with no ads, plus dose reminders in the iPhone app. Premium features include an estimated level curve, a shareable report for your clinician, food photo scanning and iOS widgets. See our free GLP-1 tracker guide.
Can I use a weight loss injection tracker on Android?+
Handle is an iPhone app; an Android app is not offered. Our GLP-1 tracker guide compares alternatives for other devices.
How do I keep track of injection sites?+
Record the site every time you inject (left or right; abdomen, thigh or upper arm) and check the last one before the next injection. Labels ask you to rotate, choosing a different spot even within the same area.1 Handle stores the site with each dose, so your rotation history is always there.
Does it matter where I inject my weight loss injection?+
Use only the areas your medicine's instructions list. For Wegovy that's the abdomen, thigh or upper arm; for Zepbound, the abdomen or thigh, or the back of the upper arm if someone else injects.1,2 The labels don't name a best site, and for tirzepatide exposure is similar across those areas.4 What matters is rotating.
Can I track a daily injection like Saxenda?+
Yes. Handle supports daily and twice-daily schedules as well as weekly ones. Saxenda (liraglutide) is a once-daily injection and is listed by name.3 A generic liraglutide can be recorded under its own name, with the same daily schedule your prescriber set.
What if I forget to log my injection?+
Add it later. You can record an injection for any day in the last 30 days, and Handle keeps the date it happened separate from the day you logged it. If you missed the injection itself, check your medicine's instructions or ask your prescriber or pharmacist. Handle never tells you to catch up.
Is a spreadsheet good enough to track weight loss injections?+
It can be, if you keep it up. A spreadsheet or Excel template handles dates and amounts well, but site rotation, symptoms and a weight trend take extra columns and charts you build yourself. An app does that work for you, and Handle's iPhone app adds injection-day reminders.
